The BJP has forged ahead in the Goa with 11 of the party’s candidates being declared winners, while the ruling Congress seems to be headed for a drubbing with just two wins so far. The BJP is also leading in several other constituencies, though the exact details are awaited.

The Congress stormed back to power in Manipur by winning 34 of the 50 seats as its party officials said they are going to “win with no less than 35 seats”. The state assembly has 60 seats.

There was jubilation in the Congress camp after Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh retained his Thoubal seat, defeating his rival from the BJP Indira Oinam by a huge margin of over 15,000 votes.

Punjab’s ruling Shiromani Akali Dal-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) combine Tuesday attained majority by winning 68 out of total 117 Assembly seats.

Congress, which had announced Amarinder Singh as its Chief Ministerial candidate and was hoping to wrest power after five years, has managed to win 46 seats so far, while others tasted victory on three seats.

Despite the victory of the SAD-BJP alliance, it has so far turned out to be a close contest between the ruling alliance and the Congress party.
